The focus on television and movies is ill advised. “30 Rock” doesn’t need another award. But there is a vital, fragmented sphere of comedy that does deserve more attention. Amy Poehler, accepting an award for her work on “Parks and Recreation,” said she was proudest of working with the Upright Citizens Brigade, which raises the question why the sketch, improv and storytelling artists who regularly work there are not eligible for the Comedy Awards.

In case it hasn’t been made abundantly clear in recent months, the New York Times fucking loves the UCB.

I like that the NYT likes the UCB.

Yes, this is me.  On the same page as this woman on the top left hand side of this screen capture - someone I admire very much.  How did I get so lucky?  Also, now the pressure is on for me to work harder, to become better, and to deserve this honor.
I got on this page because I am now the co-producer and the co-host of The Soul Glo Project.  My friend and mentor Keisha Zollar gave me this incredible opportunity and I intend to be the best producer and hostess possible, so as to NOT let her down.
Our next show is THIS Saturday at midnight at the UCB East.  I would love for you to come laugh with us - because to become better, I need to work harder… and I need YOU, because as performers we are nothing without our audience’s support.
This wasn’t a plug.  This was just me in awe of being on the same performance page and performing at the same theater as some of the comedic talent I admire the most.
I am a lucky, lucky woman.

DEAR EVERYONE WHO FOLLOWS ME ON HERE,

chriskelly:

I am writing about a very important matter, and that is to urge all of you to watch the new NBC show “Best Friends Forever” when it premieres on NBC this coming Wednesday, April 4th at 8:30pm.

It is co-created by my lovely, talented, amazing friend Lennon Parham, who also co-stars in the show, along with other amazing UCB performers. On top of that, the writing staff includes the amazingly talented Anthony King, who used to be UCB New York’s Artistic Director.

If you want to watch the pilot ahead of time, you can do so here, but also PLEASE make sure to watch and/or DVR it on Wednesday. In fact, go set your DVRs now. The show is such a wonderful combination of hilarious and poignant; you won’t regret it. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this show or the people working on it.

I love you,
Chris

P.S. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 4TH AT 8:30PM!! PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD.

Absolutely one of the best pilots I’ve seen in YEARS!!! Also, I don’t know Lennon Parham personally, but I know she’s hilarious and I heard only wonderful things about how kind she is.  Let’s do this! Spread the word!

The Deal for Today and Tomorrow

Harold Auditioners - break a leg today!! And remember: have fun and hang with friends afterwards (see below).

One of the advice we received as Harold / Lloyd auditioners was to hang out with friends after the auditions and have fun.

So, here’s what I negotiated with Triple Crown:

Today and tomorrow, all day & all evening, in addition to $4 domestic beers and 10% discount on food, we’ll have happy hour pricing on well drinks and wine ($5).  Just mention UCB Auditions.

A bunch of us are hanging at Triple Crown tonight (and probably catching the late show with Uncle Fingers) - see you there!

Also, BREAK A LEG FRIENDS and most importantly: HAVE FUN!

Thanks for doing this, Poupak!

About Me

I am a French-Iranian woman in New York. I have a passion for comedy, and have been lucky to be performing all over New York since 2010. I was a TV producer and a head writer for a morning live news show in France, as well as a free lance journalist and a book editor for many years.

I am also a performer at the UCB & The PIT in New York.

Check out my indie teams: Pou&Nic and PANTS!.

My other blog: Women Improvisers Trust

I am involved with the Diversity Initiative at the UCB and manage their blog too: UCBDifference.tumblr.com

Some of the things I do outside of comedy and my day job:

I fight cancer with a passion - I want to contribute to a world where cancer will be as benign as a simple cold. Where you can donate against cancer of any kind and give hope to families and patients
